Results from Michaelmas Term 2000

Due to the poor weather over the last month, many of this term's races have been cancelled, so our crews haven't seen as much action as usual! The few results we do have are listed below...

Cam Autumn Head
Cam Winter Head
Clare Sprints
Fairbairn Cup

Cambridge Autumn Head
Saturday 28th October

This is a 2.6km Head Race organised by Rob Roy Boat Club. Despite a ferocious head wind, the Senior Women's 2nd IV recorded a time of 16:22. (Not bad for a crew that had only had four outings!) The complete results are listed here.

Cambridge Winter Head
Saturday 18th November

This was a Head Race organised by Cantabrigian Rowing Club and was the first proper race for the Novice Crews. The Men put in a solid performance to finish 9th in their division, and the two Women's Crews were virtually neck-and-neck, finishing just three seconds apart! Fairbairns is the next Head Race for the Novices and judging by these results, there's everything to play for...!

Crew Division Time Place in Division
(ignoring non-College crews)
Men's Novice A Men's Beginners 8+ 13:09 9th
Women's Novice A Women's Beginners 8+ 16:00 6th
Women's Novice B Women's Beginners 8+ 16:03 7th

The complete results are listed here.

Clare Sprints
Thursday 23rd to Saturday 25th November

This is a knock-out competition consisting of 800m side-by-side races for Novice Crews only, organised by Clare College Boat Club. Clare Sprints is always fast and frantic racing for the Novice Crews, as crews sprint side-by-side for a place in the next round. 'A' Boats compete in the Cup Competition, 'Lower' Boats compete in the Plate Competition. This year, many of our crews were particularly unlucky as they all met some very good boats early on in the competitions. Otherwise, they could all have made it much further. Instead, they will now have to wait until Fairbairns to demonstrate their true potential!

Men's Novice A

Men's Novice A were knocked out by 1st & 3rd A in the first round. Hard luck for our A boat as 1st & 3rd A went on to win the cup competition.

Men's Novice B

Men's Novice B knocked out St Catz C in the first round, but were narrowly beaten by Queens' B, who went on to win the plate competition.

Women's Novice A

Women's Novice A were knocked out in the first round by a very good Peterhouse A crew.

Women's Novice B

Women's Novice B beat Selwyn B in the first round, but had to withdraw before the next round due to their 'over-experienced' crew! (Selwyn B went on to reach the semi-finals)

Fairbairn Cup
Thursday 30th November and Friday 1st December

This is a 4.3km Head Race for the Senior Crews and a 2.7km Head Race for the Novices, organised by Jesus College Boat Club.

The Fairbairn Cup is the final race of the term, and the one that both senior and novice crews have been training for over the past eight weeks. It is unusual in that crews race downstream, starting from Jesus College Boat House with Novices finishing at the end of the Reach and Seniors finishing by the Little Bridge.
