Easter Training Camp
Apr 18, 2010 at 06:54 PM

From 11th-16th April we held our annual Easter training camp down at Molesey Boat Club on the Thames. The accommodation was basic, the rowing was tiring - but the banter was epic. Thanks to some great coaching (including an unexpected "bonus" coach) everyone made great improvements and are now fired up for the May Bumps campaign.

After exhaustive levels of training (which consisted of the row down to the start line) our mixed, scratch crew, dressed head to toe in pirate paraphernalia, were fully prepared for what Cardinals Regatta could throw at us.

In the first round, we faced Tit Hall who were dressed as a rainbow. Shortly after our very rushed start, we opened up a comfortable lead to finish ¾ length ahead of them and claim a victory for the Pirates.

The second round was against Newnham (despite the fact that there were 4 men in their boat) who were awarded ½ a length head start for giving a slightly camper rendition of YMCA than we could. This lead was reduced to ¼ of a length after the first 200m and after 400m, we took the lead to finish a ¼ of a length ahead.

We progressed through to the final when Emma decided to scratch and we raced what must have been the strangest race the Cam had seen against Jesus. Both crews started in the middle of the reach facing opposite directions, we then raced 250m to are respective ends, did a racing spin and then raced back to the start. We lost by ¼ of a length but ultimately, victory was ours for looking so damn sexy.
